APPNEST Downloader Privacy

Key points about how the APPNEST Downloader works

Note: APPNEST Downloader is a fully native Android app built in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose. The privacy principles below apply to all current versions.

Direct Processing

We process video links directly to generate download URLs. We do not store the videos on our servers.

No Personal Data

We do not collect personal information like your name, email, or contacts. No account registration is required.

Local Storage

Downloaded videos are stored directly on your device's local storage. We do not keep copies of your downloads.

Device Permissions

We only request what the app actually needs: internet access, access to the media files you explicitly select, and notifications for download progress.

1. Information We Collect

The APPNEST Downloader is designed to minimize data collection.

1.1. Data You Provide

When you use the app, you provide:

  • URLs/Links: The social media video link you paste for downloading. This is processed transiently to extract the video.

1.2. Automatically Collected Data

We may collect minimal technical data for app functionality and improvement:

  • Device & App Information: Device model, device name, manufacturer, Android version, app version, language and time zone — used to know which devices we need to support and to optimise the app.
  • Device Identifier: An identifier used to count installs and recognise the same device across sessions. It is not linked to your name, email or Google account.
  • Approximate Location & Network: Your country, city, internet provider (ISP) and network type (Wi-Fi or mobile), derived from your IP address when the app contacts our server. The app does not use GPS and never collects a precise location.
  • Install & Update Times: When the app was first installed and last updated on your device.
  • Crash Logs: Anonymous crash reports (via standard Android mechanisms) to help us fix bugs.

This information is aggregated to understand how many people use the app and on which devices. It is never sold, and it is not used to identify you personally.

2. How We Use Information

We use the limited information solely for the operation of the app:

To process the video link and generate a download URL.
To save the video file to your device's local storage.
To improve app stability and performance.

3. Permissions Explained

The app requests only the minimum permissions required for its features:

  • INTERNET & ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE: Required to communicate with supported public sources to fetch video metadata and download files.
  • FOREGROUND_SERVICE & FOREGROUND_SERVICE_DATA_SYNC: Used to keep downloads running reliably in the background with a visible notification.
  • POST_NOTIFICATIONS: Used to show download progress and completion notifications.
  • WAKE_LOCK: Used to keep an active download from being interrupted while the screen is off.
  • READ_MEDIA_VIDEO / READ_MEDIA_AUDIO / READ_MEDIA_IMAGES (Android 13+): Used so the in-app video compressor, video-to-audio converter, audio cutter, and WhatsApp tools can read the media files you explicitly select.
  • WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE / READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (Android 12 and below only): Used to save downloaded files. On modern Android the app uses scoped storage via MediaStore and does not request broad storage access.
  • WhatsApp Status Saver folder access: The Status Saver feature uses the Storage Access Framework (SAF) so you can authorize the WhatsApp .Statuses folder once. The app never requests blanket access to your device storage.

4. Third-Party Services

The app may use third-party services that may collect information used to identify you, such as:

  • Google AdMob (with Meta Audience Network and ironSource as mediation partners): used to display advertisements that keep the app free. These networks may use advertising identifiers to serve and measure ads. You can limit personalised ads in your Android settings, or remove ads entirely with the optional in-app subscription.
  • Firebase Analytics & Remote Config (Google): anonymous usage statistics, and remote configuration of app features and ad behaviour.
  • Google Play Billing: used only if you purchase the optional ad-free subscription. Your payment details are handled entirely by Google — we never see or store them.

5. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time as the app evolves. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent revision, and we encourage you to review it occasionally. Your downloads always stay on your own device — that has never changed and will not change.
