Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy for File Nest. Your files stay on your device — they are never uploaded, sold, or shared.

Last updated: July 7, 2026

Introduction

Welcome to the Privacy Policy for the File Nest app, developed by APPNEST. File Nest is a fast, offline file manager that helps you browse, move, copy and organise the files already on your phone and SD card. This policy explains exactly what the app accesses and how your data is handled.

Our approach is simple: your files stay on your device. File Nest has no user accounts and no sign-in, and it never uploads your photos, videos, documents or any other file. The only information sent to us is anonymous device and usage analytics, described below.

Storage Access (All Files Access)

Because File Nest is a file manager, its core purpose is to manage your files — so it needs permission to read and organise them. On newer Android versions this is the “All files access” permission; on older versions it is standard storage access.

  • Why it’s needed: To list your folders and to move, copy, rename, or delete files when you ask it to. Without this access, a file manager cannot do its job.
  • What we do with it: Nothing beyond what you request on screen. Files are only ever read, moved or copied locally, in response to your own taps.
  • What we never do: We never scan, collect, upload, or transmit the contents of your files. Your files are never sent to APPNEST or anyone else.

File Nest does not request your contacts, location, camera, or microphone.

Moving & Copying Files

When you move or copy files into a folder, that operation happens entirely on your own device between your own storage locations. Nothing is uploaded, and no copy is ever sent to us or any third party.

What File Nest Stores

File Nest itself stores almost nothing. It does not build a hidden copy of your files. The only thing it keeps is a small list of preferences in its own private storage:

  • Pinned folders: The list of folder paths you choose to pin to the side panel.
  • App settings: Simple preferences such as sort order and list/grid view.
  • No file contents: Your actual photos, videos and documents are never duplicated or stored by File Nest — they stay exactly where they already are.

Thumbnails

To help you recognise your photos and videos, File Nest generates small preview thumbnails on your device. These previews are rendered locally, only for files in the folder you are viewing, and are never uploaded.

Analytics & Device Information

To understand where the app is used and which versions are active, File Nest sends a small amount of anonymous device information to APPNEST. This helps us fix problems, prioritise updates, and improve the app. It contains no file names, file contents, or folder data.

  • Device details: Device model, manufacturer, Android version, app version, language, and timezone.
  • Connection & location: Network type and an approximate location (country and city) derived from your IP address. We do not use GPS or precise location.
  • Install info: A random device identifier so repeat reports from the same device are not double-counted.

This analytics data is used only in aggregate for app insights and is never sold or used to personally identify you.

Data Sharing & Third Parties

We do not sell or rent your personal data, and File Nest does not include advertising networks. Your files are never shared because they never leave your device. The only third-party service we rely on is an IP geolocation provider used solely to convert your IP address into an approximate country and city for the anonymous analytics described above.

Data Deletion

You are always in full control. Any file you delete inside File Nest is removed from your device using the normal file system. You can remove all of the app’s own preferences at once by clearing the app’s data or uninstalling File Nest.

The only data on our servers is the anonymous device analytics record. You may request deletion of that record at any time by contacting us at [email protected] with your device model and approximate install date so we can identify it.

Children’s Privacy

File Nest is intended for general audiences and does not knowingly collect any personal information from children. The only data transmitted is the anonymous device analytics described above, which does not identify any individual user, including minors.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as the app evolves. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
