Land Surveyor includes an optional AI Assistant feature that helps users understand and use the app's surveying tools. This feature is powered by OpenAI's GPT API and requires users to provide their own OpenAI API key.
What Data is Collected
When you use the AI Assistant feature, the following data is collected:
- User Messages: Questions and messages you type into the AI Assistant chat
- Conversation History: Previous messages in your conversation for context
- OpenAI API Key: Your personal OpenAI API key (stored securely on your device only)
- Screen Context: Information about which tool or screen you're currently using (to provide relevant help)
How Your Data is Used
- AI Response Generation: Your messages and conversation history are sent to OpenAI's servers to generate helpful AI responses
- Context-Aware Help: Screen context helps the AI provide more relevant guidance
- Authentication: Your API key authenticates requests to OpenAI (never sent to our servers)

- We do not store or have access to your OpenAI API key
- Our server only facilitates the connection between your app and OpenAI
Data Storage and Retention
Local Storage (On Your Device):
- OpenAI API key: Stored securely in your device's local storage
- Conversation history: Stored locally for context in ongoing conversations
- You can clear conversation history at any time from within the app
- Removing your API key will disable the feature
OpenAI's Storage:
- OpenAI may retain your data according to their retention policies

Your Data Rights and Control
You have full control over the AI Assistant feature:
- Optional Use: The AI Assistant is completely optional - you choose whether to set it up
- Provide Your Own Key: You must provide your own OpenAI API key
- Delete Conversations: Clear conversation history anytime from the AI Assistant chat
- Remove Access: Remove your API key anytime from AI Setup screen to completely disable the feature
- Control Input: You decide what messages to send to the AI Assistant
Costs and Financial Responsibility
- OpenAI charges for API usage based on their pricing
- You are responsible for all costs associated with your OpenAI API usage
- Monitor your usage in your OpenAI account dashboard
- We do not charge additional fees for the AI Assistant feature
Security Measures
- API key is stored using secure local storage (AsyncStorage)
- All communications with OpenAI use HTTPS encryption
- Your API key is never transmitted to our servers
- Conversation data is only stored on your device
Age Restrictions
