Privacy Policy
Privacy Policy for WhatsUnseen. Everything is processed privately on your own device — nothing is ever uploaded, sold, or shared.
Introduction
Welcome to the Privacy Policy for the WhatsUnseen app, developed by APPNEST. WhatsUnseen helps you read incoming WhatsApp messages that a sender later deletes, and keeps a backup of received photos and voice messages before they can disappear. This policy explains exactly what the app accesses and how your data is handled.
Our approach is simple: your messages and media stay on your device. WhatsUnseen has no user accounts and no sign-in, and your message text, photos, and voice notes are never uploaded to any server. The only information sent to us is anonymous device and usage analytics, described below.
What We Access
To work, WhatsUnseen reads notifications that already arrive on your own phone and the media that WhatsApp itself downloads to your device:
- WhatsApp notifications: The app reads incoming WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business notifications (sender name, group name, message text, and time) so that the text remains available even if the sender deletes the message.
- Downloaded media: Photos and voice messages that WhatsApp has already downloaded into its media folders are copied into the app so they survive sender-side deletion.
WhatsUnseen does not request your contacts, location, camera, or microphone, and it does not read messages from any app other than WhatsApp.
Permissions We Use
- Notification Access: Required to read incoming WhatsApp notifications. You grant this once in your device settings, and you can revoke it at any time.
- Folder access (one-time picker): To back up WhatsApp's downloaded media and statuses, you choose the WhatsApp media folder once using the Android system folder picker. The app can then read only that folder — it does not use the broad “All files access” permission, and you can revoke the folder grant at any time.
How Your Data Is Stored
All captured message text and backed-up media are stored only in WhatsUnseen's private storage on your phone. This content is not accessible to other apps and is never transmitted off your device.
- No content uploads: Your messages, photos, and voice notes never leave your phone.
- No content on our servers: WhatsUnseen does not send your message text or media to APPNEST or anyone else.
- No accounts: There is no login, profile, or cloud sync of your content.
Analytics & Device Information
To understand where the app is used and which versions are active, WhatsUnseen sends a small amount of anonymous device information to APPNEST. This helps us fix problems, prioritise updates, and improve the app. It contains no message text, photos, voice notes, or contacts.
- Device details: Device model, manufacturer, Android version, app version, language, and timezone.
- Connection & location: Network type and an approximate location (country and city) derived from your IP address. We do not use GPS or precise location.
- Install info: First install and last update times, and a random device identifier so repeat reports from the same device are not double-counted.
This analytics data is used only in aggregate for app insights and is never sold or used to personally identify you.
Data Sharing & Third Parties
We do not sell or rent your personal data. Your messages and media are never shared because they never leave your device. The third-party services the app relies on are:
- Advertising (see the Advertising section below): Google AdMob and its mediation partners.
- Google Play Billing: processes the optional ad-free subscription; we never see your payment details.
- IP geolocation provider: converts your IP address into an approximate country/city for the anonymous analytics described above.
Advertising & Ad-Free Option
WhatsUnseen shows ads to keep the app free. Ads are served by Google AdMob with mediation partners Meta Audience Network and ironSource. These ad networks may collect device information such as your advertising ID to serve and measure ads, in accordance with their own privacy policies. Ads never have access to your messages, media or notification content.
You can remove all ads with the optional ad-free subscription, purchased and managed through Google Play. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in Android Settings → Privacy → Ads.
Data Deletion
You are always in full control of your data. You can remove captured messages and backed-up media from within the app, or delete all of it at once by clearing the app's data or uninstalling WhatsUnseen — this permanently removes every message and media file the app holds on your device.
The only data on our servers is the anonymous device analytics record. You may request deletion of that record at any time by contacting us at [email protected] with your device model and approximate install date so we can identify it.
Children's Privacy
WhatsUnseen is intended for general audiences and does not knowingly collect any personal information from children. The only data transmitted is the anonymous device analytics described above, which does not identify any individual user, including minors.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as the app evolves. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
